9/11 Tribute Ceremony

Members of the public are invited to join the City of Roswell and the Roswell Rotary Club on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, as they honor those lost and injured during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The 9-11 Tribute will take place from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Roswell Area Park inside the Bill Johnson Community Activity Building (10495 Woodstock Road).

This year’s guest speaker is Retired Brigadier General Lawrence Dudney, Jr. Brigadier General Dudney was a Commander in the Georgia Army National Guard. He was working at the Pentagon September 11, 2001, when terrorists flew a plane into the building. He spent hours evacuating the wounded and helping occupants to safety. His awards include the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Moby Carney, local retired radio personality, will be the master of ceremonies. The event will also feature Mayor Jere Wood, Fire Chief Ricky Burnett, Police Chief Rusty Grant, the Roswell Fire and Police Honor Guard, the First Baptist Church of Roswell choir, Judge Brian Hansford, Reverend Kevin Head, and the playing of the Highland Cathedral bagpipes.

The 9-11 attacks were the deadliest terrorist attacks on American soil in U.S. history. The attacks killed 2,977 people, including 343 firefighters and 72 police officers, who had rushed to the scene to help people.
