LaDow to Serve on T-SPLOST Oversight Council

Tom LaDowThe Roswell City Council unanimously approved the appointment of Tom LaDow as Roswell’s representative to the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST) Citizens Oversight Council during the Feb. 13 City Council Meeting.

As a provision of the T-SPLOST—the 0.75% (3/4 of a cent) sales tax approved by Fulton County voters in November to fund transportation projects in participating cities—the Oversight Council will monitor the progress and implementation of T-SPLOST.

Each of the 13 participating Fulton County cities (not including the City of Atlanta, which has its own T-SPLOST) will appoint a representative delegate to the Oversight Council. The Fulton County Commission will also appoint one member. The Oversight Council will meet at least twice a year and will furnish annual project status reports to the Board of Commissioners and the mayors of the participating cities.

LaDow is a Roswell resident and has served in many local civic and philanthropic capacities, including:
• Founder, past chair and current director of the North Fulton Community Improvement District
• Roswell Comprehensive Plan Committee 2011/12 and 2015/16
• Roswell Strategic Economic Development Plan Steering Committee
• Roswell Inc SEDP Implementation Committee Chair (current)
• Fulton County Court Improvement Task Force (2014)

He retired from Colonial Properties Trust, a commercial real estate investment trust, after a 34-year career. LaDow now serves as Executive Director of Atlanta Plays It Forward, a nonprofit he founded to provide low-cost entertainment and event services to charitable organizations. Among the many events the organization facilitates is the popular Alive in Roswell street festival.

“I care passionately about Roswell and North Fulton and am honored to serve the community as Roswell’s representative on the Oversight Council,” said LaDow. “T-SPLOST offers an unprecedented opportunity to make significant transportation improvements that will not only benefit Roswell, but all of North Fulton. The Oversight Council will help ensure a transparent process and the responsible stewardship of taxpayer’s money.”

About T-SPLOST

In the City of Roswell, the measure passed 53.75% to 46.25%. Countywide the measure passed 52.80% to 47.20%. T-SPLOST will bring in an estimated $93 million to the City of Roswell for transportation improvements.

Beginning in April 2017, a 0.75% (3/4 of a cent) sales tax will be collected to fund transportation projects specifically recommended by each Fulton County city outside the City of Atlanta.
