Prior to starting Horton Financial Strategies, Don spent the majority of his career with large investment management firms including TIAA-CREF, SunTrust Foundation and Endowment Specialty Practice, and Morgan Stanley Wealth Management.

Don recognized a need for independent, objective financial advice with no ties to any particular financial institution.  In 2013 he started his own Registered Investment Advisory Firm, Horton Financial Strategies.  His primary focus is personal financial planning, targeted investment advice, asset allocation strategies, and income distribution plans.

He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Performance and his Master’s Degree in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.  He also holds the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation from the American College.

Before entering the financial services industry, Don taught band and orchestra in the public schools and developed national award winning bands and orchestras in the mid-western United States.  Several of his performing ensembles won awards in international competition in addition to winning numerous state and national championships.

Don has been married to his spouse, Gayle, for 46 years.  He has two adult children and five grandchildren.  He is an active member of Roswell Presbyterian Church and sings in the Chancel Choir.  He has numerous hobbies that include music, gourmet cooking, photography, and woodworking.

He is a member of the Kettering Executive Network, The Roswell Rotary Club, North Fulton Select, The Senior Industry Networking Group, the Roswell Initiative for Community Housing, and the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing.
