Bill Johnson Community Activity Building – Large Gym

The City of Roswell will host the fourth annual Pound Cake Cook-Off as part of Roswell Roots: A Festival of Black History and Culture. This family-friendly event is free and open to the public.

Guests are invited to taste pound cake and vote for their favorite entry. Competitor categories include professional, amateur, youth and healthy. First and second place will be awarded in each category as chosen by a panel of judges. A People’s Choice Award will also be given to the participant with the most votes from guests.

Pound Cake Cook-Off Entry Form

Pound Cake Categories: Professional, Amateur, Youth (8-18 years old), and Healthy
*Healthy is considered a recipe that is diet-friendly and incorporates ingredients that result in a lower-calorie dessert. A healthy pound cake will also be judged on taste, appearance and consistency

Pound Cake Cook-Off Rules & Regulations:
  1. Pound Cake must be made from scratch (no pre-made mixes)
  2. Pound Cake must be prepared and served in a sanitary manner
  3. Registration is limited based on space
  4. May be entered as individuals or teams, which include 2-3 people
  5. Competition is open to anyone 8 years and older (Youth 8 -18, Adult 18 and over)
  6. Must specify categories: professional or amateur, youth or adult, classic or healthy. Each participant is allowed to enter a recipe in each category. When registering, check every category you are entering, but a different recipe must be submitted for each category.
  7. Participants should supply enough pound cake to serve approximately 200 people a bite-sized sample of each recipe submitted. (200 bite-sized pieces is approximately 3 traditionally-sized pound cakes)
  8. Creativity with your recipes and table decoration is encouraged (basic table cloths will be provided)
  9. Participants must submit an ingredients list for each recipe before the day of the event.
  10. Pound cake must be prepared off-site
  11. Judging criteria includes: taste, appearance and consistency

Set-up Instructions:
  1. All Participants will be allowed to set up no earlier than 11:30 AM
  2. Two chairs and one 6’ folding table will be supplied for each contestant
  3. Participants are encourage to include visual displays and decorations on their tables
  4. Small tasting cups and paper napkins for serving attendees will be supplied by the committee
  5. Between 3:30 and 4:30 PM, all equipment, displays and decorations must be removed from the Bill Johnson Community Activity Building

1st and 2nd place prizes will be awarded in the Amateur and Professional categories. A special prize will be awarded to the "best" entry selected by the judges in the Youth and Healthy categories. A award will also be given to the People’s Choice which will be voted on by those who attends the event.
