Public Meeting: Rucker Road Improvements

The City of Roswell will be hosting a Public Information Open House on Nov. 17 to get public input on a concept to improve Rucker Road. The open house will start at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, at Restoration Church (410 Rucker Road, Alpharetta).

The Rucker Road corridor currently consists of one lane in each direction with urban and rural shoulders, right turn lanes and intermittent sidewalks. The proposed project consists of the widening of Rucker Road from SR 140/Houze Road to Spring Place Lane at the Roswell/Alpharetta City limits. It also includes multi-use paths on both sides of the road and a two-way left-turn lane down the center of the road.

The project is proposed to be a three-lane section that will match the proposed Rucker Road improvements currently under final design with the City of Alpharetta for their portion of Rucker Road. Striping revisions will carry into the City of Alpharetta for travel lane continuity. The City of Alpharetta is currently finishing right-of-way acquisition for their portion of the Rucker Road project between the Roswell/Alpharetta City limits and Wills Road. Alpharetta anticipates construction beginning in mid-2017 and lasting approximately two years.  Roswell’s portion will be completed in conjunction with Alpharetta’s portion.

The City of Roswell’s section of the Rucker Road corridor will be widened to include one 12-foot lane in each direction, as well as a 12-foot center left turn lane. There will be 24-inch curb and gutter along the entire project length with an 8-foot wide sidewalk separated by a 5-foot grass strip on both sides. Behind the sidewalks, will be two-foot grassed shoulders. The project will also incorporate improvements to the signal at SR 140/Houze Road to improve traffic flow through the intersection.

The anticipated cost of construction is approximately $2.3 million. Roswell is only providing funding for the portion of the project within the Roswell City Limits and will use funds from the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST), which voters approved on Nov. 8, 2016. Alpharetta is covering their portion of costs with their city’s May 2016 bond referendum.
