Starting Pay

Police Officer I (0-1 Year Experience)
  • with High School Diploma (or GED equivalent): $26.81/hr
  • with Associates Degree: $27.78/hr
  • Bachelor’s Degree: $28.60/hr
Police Officer I (2-5 Years Experience)
  • with High School Diploma (or GED equivalent): $27.78 - $30.62/hr
  • with Associates Degree: $28.60 - $31.69/hr
  • with Bachelor’s Degree: $29.59 - $32.80/hr



What Do We Require of You?
Our officers have created an evaluation process that seeks the best candidates to work side by side with us. Moral character and the right mindset to learn, work hard, and lead are stressed.

Minimum Requirements:

  • United States citizen
  • Minimum age of 21
  • Valid driver's license
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Honorable Discharge if served in the Armed Forces
  • Visual ability cannot be less than 20/100 each eye uncorrected and 20/20 corrected

Evaluation Process:

A candidate must successfully complete the evaluation process:

Phase I

  • Background Packet - Applicants are given 14 days to complete the packet with their personal background information to assist in determining their suitability for the position.
  • Physical Agility Test - Obstacle course based on actual police-related activities.
  • Morris-McDaniel Law Enforcement Exam (ELLE) - Battery of tests designed to assess specific skills and abilities such as problem sensitivity, semantic ordering, verbal comprehension, memorization, etc.
  • Typing Assessment - Minimum requirement is 30 words per minute.
  • Writing Assessment - Select a topic from 3 choices and provide 3-5 paragraphs, each containing 3-5 sentences.
  • Initial Interview - An informal interview to be conducted as soon as practical.

Phase II

  • Criminal / Driver History Checks - A preliminary check to ensure that applicants meet the minimum standards set forth by GA POST and the department policy.
  • Records Checks - A preliminary check to ensure that applicants meet the minimum standards set forth by GA POST and the department policy.
  • Background Investigation - An extensive investigation into the applicant’s background to determine suitability for the department. Applicant's will be made aware that sensitive and confidential aspects of their lives may be explored.

Phase III

  • Behavioral Panel Interview - Formal job-related interview before a panel comprised of police officers with varying levels of training, knowledge, and experience.
  • Ride-Along - Conducted with a senior officer on both a day shift and night shift for at least 4 hours per shift.

  • Medical Examination/Drug Screen
  • Psychological Assessment
  • Polygraph Examination

Phase V

  • Command Interview/Final Job Offer – Formal Interview comprised of Chief of Police, Deputy Chief and Department Captains.

Start Date

  • Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy - 11 weeks, Monday through Friday 8-5.
  • Field Training - Minimum of 10 weeks with a training officer.
  • Probationary Period - 1 year of probationary status with the City of Roswell to begin on date of hire.
